Goal

This level 1 trauma center needed a way to track medications delivered through pneumatic tubes that integrated into their EHR system and could support both pharmacy and non-pharmacy workflow. The objective was to reduce frequent instances of misplaced medication, which was causing nurses to spend valuable time tracking down doses, pharmacies to refill orders, and a higher patient wait time due to manual delivery.

Tactics

MedEx app was installed on handheld devices, so staff could secure and confirm drug delivery from anywhere.
Staff gained fast access to TubeSafe by scanning their hospital ID badge instead of a slower username and password entry.
The canister locking mechanism secured the medication inside, providing an extra layer of protection against misplacement and diversion.
Staff were alerted automatically to changes in a patient’s location
Monthly reports provided key metrics to leadership staff
Nurses and pharmacy staff had easy access to medication whereabouts through integration with the eMAR system.
Supported Active Directory® for user authentication.
