Empowering Veteran's at Work: Gratitude in Action

Veterans Day offers a moment to pause, to reflect on courage, service, and the quiet strength of those who have dedicated their lives to something greater than themselves. It is also a reminder that the values forged through service — leadership, integrity, teamwork, and resilience — are the same ones that help build strong communities and workplaces today.

Across Inmar, we are taking time to recognize the leadership our veterans and military families bring to Inmar. Their service forged habits that strengthen our culture and influence how we work, how we show up for one another, and how we serve our clients.

“Veterans remind us that true leadership begins with service,” said Spencer Baird, CEO of Inmar. “Their courage, discipline, and sense of purpose inspire us to bring our best to everything we do.”

Understanding the Unique Skills Veterans Bring to the Workforce

Veterans bring mission-driven focus, resilience, and leadership to civilian teams; strengths that can transform business outcomes when paired with intentional support. Recognizing and mapping these strengths helps employers align veterans to roles where they can excel from day one.

  • Transferable skills gained from military experience: Project execution, logistics planning, compliance readiness, risk assessment, and operational discipline are common across service specialties. Veterans also bring strong ethics and accountability that elevate team performance.
  • Leadership and teamwork capabilities: Many veterans have led diverse teams under complex conditions, making them adept at coaching, delegating, and cross-functional collaboration. They are comfortable with clear goals, feedback cycles, and continuous improvement.
  • Problem-solving and adaptability in high-pressure situations: Veterans are trained to assess rapidly, prioritise, and act decisively. Their ability to adapt to evolving requirements and maintain composure in high-stakes scenarios supports innovation and stability.

How Employers Can Support Veterans in the Workplace

Sustained engagement from leadership and HR converts goodwill into outcomes, including improved retention, stronger teams, and a reputation for meaningful support. Here are some ideas employers can use to support their veteran associates:

  • Benefits of employee resource groups focused on veterans: ERGs provide peer support, mentorship pipelines, and programming that builds understanding across the organisation.
  • Creating policies that promote veteran hiring and retention: Clarify military leave, guard/reserve obligations, and flexible work options. Incorporate skills-based hiring, interview coaching, and bias training for hiring managers.
  • Recognizing and celebrating veterans' contributions in the workplace: Honor service during key observances, spotlight veteran-led projects, and reward innovations stemming from military-earned expertise.

Celebrating Our Veterans Across Inmar

Our veteran associates embody the qualities that strengthen our company culture and reflect our shared Values. To foster connection and community, veterans will gather for special Veterans Day lunches at our Grand Prairie, TX, and Winston-Salem, NC locations.

Recognizing Service and GIving Back to the Wounded Warrior Project

In the spirit of gratitude, Inmar veterans have selected to support the Wounded Warrior Project as this year’s featured nonprofit. The Wounded Warrior Project helps veterans and their families heal, grow, and thrive through health, wellness, and career programs. Its mission of empowering those who have served reflects a belief we share deeply: that honoring service means investing in people and communities long after the uniform comes off.

Extending Care Beyond Veterans Day: Mental Health and Wellness at Work

At Inmar, our commitment to service goes hand in hand with our culture of care. We believe that supporting mental, physical, and emotional well-being strengthens not only our company but the communities we serve. This culture of care guides how we show gratitude: through empathy, understanding, and meaningful action.
