Direct and Indirect Remuneration (DIR) is a complicated component of Medicare Part D plans that pharmacies of all classifications must navigate. The constructs by which DIR is assessed are very complicated and have been implemented in a variety of different ways and are changing from year to year. The lack of clarity, fairness and transparency to all parties has created business challenges for pharmacies.
A successful rebate program requires effective execution of, among other things, offer dissemination, fulfillment and data capture. At the same time, regulatory compliance – including strict adherence to statutes regarding escheat — must be maintained in order to avoid the negative consequences that could result from failure to meet current reporting and management requirements for abandoned property.
