Inmar's Girls on Fire Robotics Team Heads to World Championship

In just their second year since formation, Inmar-sponsored Girls on Fire robotics team will compete in the World Championship April 27 — 30 in St. Louis, MO. The team qualified after winning their category at the FIRST Robotics Competition — North Carolina State Championship held recently in Charlotte. Thirty-two teams competed for the right to go on to compete in the World Championship.

The 17-member Girls on Fire team meets at the Inmar headquarters in Winston-Salem's Wake Forest Innovation Quarter, where they work together, guided by mentors, to design, build and test the robot they take to competitions. Inmar sponsors the team along with Girl Scouts - Carolina Peaks to Piedmont, Ecolab, NASA, United Therapeutics Corporation, Volvo, Reynolds Foundation, Kiwidyne Labs, ABCO, Symphony-Teleca and TEK Systems.

The mission of FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) is to inspire young people to be science and technology leaders, by engaging them in exciting mentor-based programs that build science, engineering and technology skills, that inspire innovation, and that foster well-rounded life capabilities including self-confidence, communication and leadership.

"This precocious group of young women has not met a challenge they didn't tackle head on — always as a team," says David Mounts, Chairman and CEO, Inmar. "They are an inspiration — the entire Inmar team is cheering them on as they head to Worlds! This is an unbelievable performance by a second-year team; we could not be more proud."
